Sunday 28th April see's the first of our Rhayader and Elan Valley Angling Association fly fishing competitions on the Elan Valley reservoirs. If you want to attend, just turn up at the car park in front of the Nantgwlt church around 9.30am to book in, and then we set off at 10am. The price is the cost of a day ticket (£12) plus £1 for the competition (for non Elan Valley season ticket holders) or just £1 for the competition if you're a Elan Valley season ticket holder. A great days fishing in beautiful surroundings. We then meet up at the Elan Hotel in Rhayader for the weigh-in at 5.30pm. Everybody is welcome and it would be great to see new faces as well as regulars attending.
Llyngwyn fishing report for March
The heaviest fish of the month was for Paul Ireland with a lovely brown trout of approximately 5 ½ lb. The fish was caught from the bank on a Diawl Bach and was released back to fight another day.
John Henderson of Rhayader had a cracking day in the boat landing 15 fish for an approximate combined weight of 24lb. These were taken on Cormorants.
Shaun Hall of Rhayader also had a great day with 15 fish being brought to the boat on a Squirmy Cat.
Steve Holroyd of Tenbury Wells had 15 from the bank on a Damsel and Ken Holroyd had 13 on buzzers.
Craig Bufton and Ron Cornwell both had 4lbers, one of 7 fish for both anglers. Craig on Diawl Bach, and Ron on a Humongous.
Best flies for March were – Diawl Bach, Cormorants, Buzzers, Damsels
Gwynfor James landed the largest fish of the month weighing 4.5 lbs from a boat This was one of 12 fish for the day with a combined weight of 37 lbs.
Mike Richards of Newtown also had a cracking day catching a total of 12 fish on various flies from the bank for a total weight of 24lb.
Rob Davies managed to catch 11 fish which were all returned with the heaviest 3lb.
John Henderson of Rhayader also made it into double figures with 10 fish from the boat with the heaviest weighing 3.5lbs
Successful flies for January included Montana Nymph, Cats Whisker, Damsel Nymph and Buzzers.
L Wakelam landed the heaviest fish of the month at 7lb, one of 6 fish for the day all caught and returned on Montana Nymph.
J Parr managed to land 17 fish for a combined weight of 25lb from the bank.
Christian Jones of Mountain Ash had a couple of excellent days with 16 caught for a total weight of 38lb and 14 fish the next day. Heaviest fish 3lb 10 oz.
Best flies for February included Montana Nymph, Buzzers, Damsels, Coral lures and Cormrants.
The blind pairs competition which was due to be held on Sunday January 27th has now been cancelled. Sorry for any inconvenience this may have caused.
Our Annual General Meeting will be held on Monday Feb 4th at the Castle Hotel at 7:30PM.
